Going through Changes

''Life moves prettty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.''

-Ferris Bueller

Was thinking about that quote today. It really gets more true the older you get. Sometimes you can be so busy going about your life and your day-to-day rigmarole you don’t stop and take a minute to observe your surroundings. So much can happen in a relatively small period of time that you kind of lose track of the life that is happening around you. In my experience so much has changed in my life in the past year that I honestly didn’t think it was possible for so much to happen In such a short time. But as Ferris put it so poetically, now is the time to look around because I don’t want to miss anything.

It's only natural to fear change. Change is disorder, after all. However sometimes in life you either pivot or you stay stagnant and become resentful. It can be scary to change, for sure. But, in my experience, the scariest decisions I’ve ever made have been the most life changing for me. Swapping comfort and familiarity for the unknown isn’t a decision that should ever be taken lightly but you know when it is time to move on from a place where you could be suffering.

Prioritising your own happiness has become one of the most important things you can do in this modern world. Long gone are the days of traditional choices in life, the status quo has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. The days of having a family of nine and owning a house by the age of 21 are long gone. We’ve entered a time in society in which no prior generation knows how to deal with the challenges that it presents. This is why it

is so important to listen to yourself and accept the changes that happen in your life.

There is no playbook as to what happens next for the world. Who knows maybe Skynet will become self aware and nothing will matter in the end anyway, or, maybe Chat GPT will become so embedded into the corporate world that humans will become redundant in the workplace. I don’t claim to have any answers, but what I do know is that if you cannot change then you will be unhappy. Bravery is a requirement in the modern world today, and when I say bravery, I don’t mean charging into a battlefield or slaying a dragon. I mean it in the smallest possible sense. Individual bravery is a virtue that will become more and more vital as the years go by.

So as Bruce Lee said ‘’Be water my friend’’
